With so many "big" books on the shortlist and well-known favourites like Julian Barnes, Zadie Smith and Kazuo Ishiguro, it was quite exciting to see John Banville slinkoff with the Man Booker Prize last night.
At that point I would have been happy to forget the whole thing, and slinkoff home, but it wasn't to be: A rousing chorus of "Jerusalem" from opera singer Sean Ruane, and we too were pouring across the line.
